Electro-Muscle Stimulation
Electro-Muscle Stimulation is a special form of electrical current
that is administered at the site of soft tissue injury, especially muscles,
for the blocking of pain. Small amounts of electrical current are
induced into the tissue for the purpose of reducing swelling. This
technique safely strengthens muscles and helps reduce painful
symptoms.
Intersegmental Traction
Intersegmental traction is a way of inducing passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joints and
increasing mobility. The gentle rolling action is restful and
exercises the spine without effort. This helps to increase circulation of spinal fluid
and restore necessary elasticity and motion to the spine.
Cryotherapy
This is a term that describes the application of ice, cold towels, ice massage and compresses to reduce the temperature of tissue
on or directly below the surface of the skin. This constricts the blood vessels, helps relax muscle spasms and numbs the painful area. Cryotherapy is an inexpensive way to reduce swelling and provide temporary relief.
Superficial Heat
Hot packs, warm moist towels and heating pads are often used to help raise the temperature of soft tissues directly below the
surface of the skin. Heat applied to the surface of the skin
enlarges the blood vessels below the surface and can temporarily relieve painful symptoms. This is helpful for increasing the flexibility and
range of motion before or after an adjustment. Heat relaxes muscle tension, reduces joint stiffness, and prepares tissues for
rehabilitation.
